Tried to add some diffusion

I am a noob here, I got a pixel matrix done using a 3D model that was kindly shared around the forum. I bought and had a .113” black acrylic panel cut to tidbyts exact dimensions. However I dont seem to get the actual effect, am I doing something wrong. It is black acrylic material from SendCutSend Might that be the cause. I did not go with AdaFruit

because the panel is big and I have no way or tools to cut it precisely.

The guys from that company told me that their black acrylic was the closest match to AdaFruit’s. Is it AdaFruit’s intrisically different? Apart from being black does it have like a different finish?
