Heat and the cycling loading screen

My TidByt Gen1 has had a difficult summer. Since about June, the unit frequently gets stuck on the start-up loop, or sometimes gets stuck on “Connecting…”, or even some loop of the two mixed together. If I do nothing, the loop will run for hours.

I’ve tried hitting/holding the reset button, or plugging/unplugging, but the problem persists.

But there’s one solution that (temporarily) works: Putting the Tidbyt in the fridge for an hour. I bundle it in plastic bags, cool it down, pull it out and plug it in: It works instantly, and runs fine for a few hours.

But then the problem resumes.

My best guess: This is an issue of heat. My apartment has been warm this summer (maybe 70 degrees?) and I think the unit is struggling.

Still, I’d love to fix this without putting my Tidbyt in the fridge every few hours.

My question: If I were to remove the backplate and add more ventilation holes, would that help address this? Follow up question: Could Tidbyt ship me a new backplate with those holes already in place, and I’ll install it myself?

Thanks all
