Couldn't connect to the internet

Hey just got mine today, ahead of Christmas so thank you for that. Device looks beautiful but I haven’t been able to progress past the “Open Tidbyt App” or Bluetooth screen.

I am receiving “Couldn’t connect to the internet” from my 2.4ghz network with the Tidbyt sitting a few feet away.

I am using a Netgear C6300 router using the latest Android app on the store on a Pixel 5.

@Tyler-V Looks like a strong Wi-Fi signal, but the Tidbyt isn’t able to connect and synchronize its time with the Internet.

Is there any chance you would have a firewall that is blocking time.google.com, SNTP, or port 123 (UDP) in general?

@rohan not that I can find, that would be something in my router I imagine? If I try to change my synch in windows, I can also see that it is unable to contact time.google.com

image

Generally it would be in your router settings, unless it’s blocked by your ISP for some reason (which would be strange).

Would you mind sharing the make/model number of your router and I can take a look? And also what ISP you use just in case.

AC1750 WiFi Cable Modem - Netgear C6300
Serial: 3LM2487102407
ISP: Spectrum Cable (Charter Communications Inc)

I disabled my firewall and malware to see if there was a rule there that was blocking, still no success.

Got it. Would you mind trying one other thing? If you go back to Windows, are you able to get it to sync with the pool.ntp.org time server?

Also, any chance you have a DMZ address entered in your router (Advanced > Setup > WAN Setup)?

It looks like the Netgear C6300 blocks time synchronization if this feature is enabled:

Hey @rohan appreciate the deep dive, I do have a default DMZ server set

Disabling default DMZ server lets me connect! We are live, thank you so much for the help.

Sure thing! We are going to update the device firmware to not require time.google.com access. At that point you would be able to re-enable DMZ if you need it.

It takes a while to roll out these firmware changes though, since we need to test thoroughly and make sure we’re not breaking anything.

@rohan my friend I was hoping this would be the last time I would have to deal with this :frowning:

I moved and am now on AT&T Fiber, they provided me with a BGW210-700 and I am experiencing the same Bluetooth spinning while the mobile app continues to display “Setting up Office” to no avail

After navigating into the gateway, I am unable to find any settings related to “Default DMZ Server” and am hoping you can lend some assistance again in what my next troubleshooting steps are - thanks!
